Apr.30 Devotion:Blinded by Sight

Blinded by sight

Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

Almost each day on the radio I hear a commercial that has this statement: “There is none so blind as those who will not see.” After hearing these a few times God began to speak to my heart and I ask myself:What things do I just refuse to see? Too often we get caught up in fixating our sight upon others and we are blinded to things in our own lives.

1. Shortcomings We are quick to point out how others fall short in our eyes. We will quickly label others in certain ways based on decisions they make or the things they do. When we do this we are blind to things in our own lives. How many times we heard someone say: -at least I didn’t do it like so and so. -yeah, but at least I don’t act like… When we say these things we are blind to how we fall short. Instead of comparing our lives to Christ we are searching for people we can claim that we are better than.

2. Sin James 4:17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

We put sin into certain classifications. This allows us to look at others and claim that they need to get right with God. All the while, those things we do wrong are also sin, but we just refuse to look at it that way. We search out ways to justify our own sin.

3. Need to sell out Have you ever sit in a service and hear preacher preach about faithfulness? What comes to your mind? You think about who isn’t coming back or you ask God about your faithfulness? It’s not just about attending services or reading your Bible. It’s about being completely sold out to Him. When we are truly sold out to Him then we don’t see anything or anyone around us. Our focus is squarely on our relationship with Him.

Where are you today? Are you spending too much time focused on others and blinded to yourself?

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
