Aug. 21 Devotion: A Life Of Success?

A Life Of Success?

Matthew 25:23 His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.

One of the things I used to watch more of was NASCAR. Whenever you had rookies running a question they would get asked is what did success look like. More often than not the answer would be running all the laps. It wasn’t about the finishing position, but getting all the experience they could by completing all the laps. If I go play golf anymore I consider it a success if I don’t lose anymore than a couple golf balls. The world defines success by winning, who has the most, who’s the best, etc. However, the Lord looks at things differently than we do. We could easily look at men in the Bible like Peter, David, Paul, etc and look at them as being successful. We look at what they accomplished and would say they were successful. What about Jeremiah? Would we call him successful? Someone who preaches all those years and you have no account of anyone turning their life around. Would we consider that a success? I’d be willing to bet if Jeremiah was a Baptist preacher nowadays the brethren would try to get him to quit. Some would probably say he’s not doing what God wants or he should see some fruit. There are many ways we would look at the life of Jeremiah and not consider it a success. I’d say that God considered him just as successful as anyone else since he was doing just what God had instructed him to do. That is how our successes should be measured. Are we doing what God has instructed us to do? God doesn’t measure our success by numbers, or how successful the world looks at it. He just wants us to be obedient. God looks at our lives as a success if we are just willing to seek His will for our lives and do what He’d have is to do. I believe our text verse should be what we all strive to hear from the Lord: Well done, good and faithful servant! This would be what success looks like! Are you on a successful path today based on Gods guidelines or are you more concerned with the world calling you successful?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
