Aug 4 Devotion: Running the Christian Race

Running the Christian Race

Hebrews 12:1

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

To run a race the first thing that happens is you must enter the race. The Christian race is entered by being born again. You have to trust Christ as your Savior. To run a race you must exercise. This is done by trusting Christ in your every day life. Unlike the tv preacher's of today that say trust Christ and you'll have no problems. This is not true. Over and over the Bible talks about the suffering of the child of God. If Jesus suffered the way he suffered who are we to think that we should walk through this world on a bed of ease. Next you'll have to endure hardships. A runner must run when he don't feel like running. That's the way the body is made stronger. a Christian must go on when he doesn't feel like going on. When difficulties come it is easy to lay down and quit. You'll never get any stronger or become a better Christian if you quit. Last of all you must exclude some things. A runner takes off every thing that slows him down. The life of a Christian is about removing things that slows him down.

May God bless you
