Aug 5 Devotion: Preaching

Preaching

1 Corinthians 1:18-21

[18] For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. [19] For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. [20] Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? [21] For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

We see the word preaching mentioned a couple times here in these verses. We see the importance God has placed on preaching in vs 21. It is never something that should be taken lightly.

A simple definition of preaching is to proclaim or put forth. What comes to your mind when you hear the word preaching? Does it excite you regardless of circumstances? Whether it’s preaching that leads to shouting from rooftops, stepping on your toes, or skinning your hide. I understand no one likes to be “preached to”, but it is all done to be a help to us.

Does the word preaching bring thoughts of time? Are you someone that goes into church already worried about how long the preaching is going to be so you’ll know when you can get out? Would you be willing to sit through hours of good Godly preaching? Preaching can get a negative connotation in the world, hence the beginning of vs 18. However, what is it to those of you who are saved? What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word preaching? Does it render feelings of excitement or feelings of dread?

God bless you today!
