The Good Fight
2 Timothy 4:7
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
Our text finds Paul at the end of his life, and he’s writing his 2nd letter to Timothy. Today I’d like to focus on just the beginning of this verse. What is the good fight?
This good fight is the relentless pursuit of faithfulness to Christ regardless of opposition, temptation, or suffering. It demands that we resist sin, stand firm against false teaching, endure persecution, and proclaim the Gospel boldly even when it costs dearly. Paul’s own life exemplified this: shipwrecks, beatings, imprisonments, and constant threats did not deter him. The fight was “good” because it was fought for the right cause—the glory of God. You may see a lot of fighting today over a lot of things, but the true good fight is for the cause of Christ.
Every believer is called to this same good fight. It is not optional but the essence of the Christian life. Every single person has something they can do to the glory of God. That is your fight. Your willingness to obey Gods will for your life and to continue the fight to share the Gospel and point others to Christ. To fight well is to refuse compromise, to press on when weary, and to keep one’s eyes fixed on Jesus. That is a fight marked by integrity, tenacity, and hope, knowing that the battle belongs to the Lord and the crown awaits the faithful.
Whatever it is that you do for the Lord, just keep it up! Continue to stay in the good fight as we look forward to His coming!!
God bless,
Bro. Josh Richardson
