Feb. 10 Devotion: A Servants Ear

A Servants Ear

1 Samuel 3:10 And the Lord came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

This verse is the culmination of the Lord calling on Samuel. The Lord has called on Samuel three times before verse 10 and each time Samuel, believing it to be Eli goes in to him. Eli then perceives the Lord is calling Samuel and gives him instruction on what to do. 1 Samuel 3:8-9 And the Lord called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the Lord had called the child. [9] Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, Lord ; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

If we are willing to open our Bible, humble ourselves, and listen God will speak to us through His Word. The question I have for you today is how do you hear His voice? Do you listen with a cautious ear? Are you hesitant to listen to what God has to say? Do you listen with a closed ear? Meaning do you listen with the intent on doing whatever you want regardless of what God might show you? Do you listen with a judgemental ear? Are you immediately trying to tell God why He’s wrong and you can or can’t do something? Do you listen with a servants ear? When you are seeking God are you listening to His response while making yourself available for whatever He has for you? Look at how Samuel answers in verse 10. “Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.” Can you say the same thing? Do you answer with a servants heart? Do you listen with a servants ear?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
