A WALK DOWN MEMORY LANE

Proverbs 10:7 The memory of the just is blessed:

Deuteronomy 5:15 And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm:

The older I get, the more I realize that precious memories linger in my heart and mind long after the moments are gone. When I look back over the years of my life and remember my childhood; the good days and bad days, I am always moved with all kinds of emotions. Then I start to remember all the wonderful memories of my mom and dad, and our times together with the whole family. These memories are priceless! I have tried to lock them away in my heart as treasures that I can go back to when I need them. I truly believe these memories are God’s gift to us. Most of us can remember all those people in our lives that have left a mark upon us in immeasurable ways. My friend, think about how your mom and dad, grandma and grandpa, the pastors and preachers in your life, etc. have changed the course of your days! Then, think about the many precious days and memories with your children, or your spouse. Every time I walk down memory lane, I find a fountain of life that my soul can drink from! All these days and memories are like life giving waters that have brought refreshment to my heart and soul that time can NOT rob from me. Hallelujah!

To the child of God there is the most blessed memory of all….the day you met the Master! In our text in verse 15, we are reminded….”remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt,” Do you remember that day? The day when you were in and of this world, lost in your sin? You were a citizen of Egypt (a picture of the world), you were a servant to the devil and a slave to your sin. BUT GOD, who was rich in love and mercy stretched out HIS mighty arm, reached down, and lifted you out and saved you! Praise the Lord for the times when we are discouraged and feel burdened down with care and we can go back to the place and time when we met Jesus! What value can you place on that memory?

Memories are a gift from God and HE promises to make them a well of joy we can draw upon. My Christian friend, this is HIS gift to you. Sweet memories are HIS fingerprints upon your heart as evidence that HE has been there every step of the way, through the bad and the good. When I remember the many times I have failed at being the husband, dad, or Christian that the Lord has wanted me to be, I am overwhelmed by HIS patience. When I remember the times when I stumbled in my faith, I am astounded by HIS grace. When I revisit the valleys that I have walked through, I’m aware of HIS great comfort and peace. When I look back at the hurts I’ve experienced at the hands of others or at my own doing, I am amazed once again at the Lord’s strength to heal my deepest wounds; precious memories that God has allowed me to hide away as my very own. My friend, no matter the memory, God said these memories will bless the just. What are your memories? Take some time today and take a walk down memory lane. When you remember your salvation, and all the people the Lord has placed in your life over the years; all the good times and blessings from God’s hand, savor them as the priceless treasures they are. I encourage you today, look back over the years, give God praise and marvel at HIS blessings!
