Feb. 20 Devotion: Top Priority

Top Priority

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

There’s just not enough hours in the day. How many times have you uttered those words or heard someone else say them? That seems to be a common theme in today’s day and age. With so many things pulling us in all different directions.

When you look at how a person spends their average day, you get something like this:

Sleeping — 8.5 hours

Working (paid work) — 4.5 hours

(This averages everyone, including retirees and non-workers. Full-time workers average ~8 hours on workdays.)

Leisure & sports —5 to 5.5 hours

(TV alone takes about 2.5–3 hours)

Household activities (cleaning, cooking, chores) —2 hours

Eating & drinking — 1 hour

Personal care (grooming, etc.) — 1 hour

Caring for others (kids, adults) — 1 hour

Education — ~0.5 hour

Other / commuting / miscellaneous — 1–1.5 hours

I’d guess something different stands out to each of us.

Who sleeps that much?

Who has time for 3 hours of tv?

Another thing I noticed is only approximately 30 minutes for education. I guess that could also include Bible study. That’s it? Only 30 minutes a day?

Now, I understand everyone is different, and each of our days probably look way different than this average. However, this average does show exactly how easy it is for our day to be consumed by life. That’s why if we are going to truly serve the Lord with all our heart, we must make it a priority each day. When we don’t purposely set apart time for the Lord, it’s easy to get consumed with life, and we get to the end of each day and see that we’ve invested little to no time with the Lord. How often do we seek Him first? There are times you would be amazed that when you seek Him first, how much easier everything else can fall into place and the things you can get accomplished.

Don’t allow a day to go by this next week that you don’t make the Lord a priority in your life and seek Him first!

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
