Feb 21 Devotion: Being An Example

Being An Example

John 13:13-15 [13] Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. [14] If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. [15] For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.

I recently heard a message preached from this passage. If you were to read before these verses you would read the account of Jesus washing the disciples feet. What I’d like to focus on today is what is said here in vs 15. What an example Jesus has set for all of us!! Not just here, but in the life he lived while here on earth. What about us? How close do we try to follow His example? Do we love others the way we should? How quick are you to forgive those that do you wrong? What about just showing kindness? We could list multiple other ways Jesus was an example for how we should live our lives. Do we follow those things? Former pro basketball player Charles Barkley once said this: I’m not a role model… Just because I dunk a basketball doesn’t mean I should raise your kids. Now we all have people in sports we look up to and admire, but in most cases those shouldn’t be the people we want our kids to model their lives like. Are we the example that Christ would want us to be for our kids, or just those around us? We live in a world that is full of bad examples, can others look at us as being that good example in their lives? There will be no better example than Christ, but being the example we should be means our lives will point others to Christ!!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
