WHEN WE RUN OUT OF EXCUSES
Exodus 3:1-2, 4, 10-11 Now Moses kept the flock of Jethro his father in law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the backside of the desert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.
[2] And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush: and he looked, and, behold, the bush burned with fire, and the bush was not consumed.
[4] And when the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called unto him out of the midst of the bush, and said, Moses, Moses. And he said, Here am I.
[10] Come now therefore, and I will send thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring forth my people the children of Israel out of Egypt.
[11] And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?
There is no greater dishonor to God than when we retreat behind our limitations and weaknesses excusing ourselves from serving HIM in the manner in which HE has called us to. Throughout the Word of God, we see time and time again that the Lord calls not the strong and well abled to do HIS work. The Lord confounds the wise by taking the ordinary and doing the extraordinary. God called a shepherd boy and made him a king, the youngest and smallest to stand before giants. John the Baptist was a hairy wild looking man, Mary was an unknown young maiden, Esther was a Hebrew orphan, Rahab was a harlot, Elisha was a farmer, Jeremiah was but a youth, Hosea married a harlot, Paul was a persecutor of the Church, Peter was a fisherman, a donkey was used by God as HIS mouthpiece, the city of Samaria was won for Jesus through the life of a woman divorced FIVE TIMES who was living in immorality. Stephen waited tables and Jesus the Son of God and the Savior of the world was the son of a carpenter born in a lowly manger, a foot washer to HIS disciples. These are only a few examples but we get the picture the Lord wants us to see. My Christian friend, GOD and ONLY GOD could do all of that, and HE alone wants to receive all the Glory. When God privileges man just to hear HIS voice and then in that still small voice calls us to do something for HIM, our flesh wants to make excuses why WE CAN’T.
When God called Moses to lead HIS people out of Egypt, Moses’ first response was; “Who am I that Ishould go?” Then he followed up with three more excuses; How will I answer the questions they have for me concerning you? How will they ever believe it is YOU who sent me? Then the BIG EXCUSE…I am not an eloquent speaker in fact I’m slow at speaking! He follows all that up with a final plea asking the LORD to send someone else instead of him. In fact, Moses was begging the LORD to send anyone but him. Can you identify with Moses? I know in my life, I can relate to Moses and the excuses he is giving the Lord, why he CAN’T. When The Lord calls, and gives us the great honor to do ANYTHING for HIM, we have but one answer; “Here am I Lord, what would thou have thy servant to do?” Hallelujah! The Lord told Moses, I made you so don’t tell me of all your weaknesses. Bless HIS Name! The Apostle Paul tells us in (2 Corinthians 12:9) about his weakness and his thorn in the flesh. Paul asked the LordTHREE TIMES to remove this thorn…this weakness that he thought hindered his walk with God. The Lord’s response to Paul was…And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Praise the Lord! This is why the Lord seeks out the unusable in man’s eyes, because it is in the weak vessels that Jesus can show forth HIS great power and display HIS glory!
Who can fathom, add up or put on paper God and HIS ways? Who are any of us that we should be an instrument in the Hand of Almighty God? Furthermore, who are any of us to question when HE does? Our God is a God who works in such a way that only HE can get the glory for it. The supernatural workings of God will always lower man and elevate Jesus…ALWAYS.
