Jan 19 Devotion: The Unseen Hand Of God

THE UNSEEN HAND OF GOD

Matthew 5:1, 3-4 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him:

[3] Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

[4] Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

The value and existence of blessings in the life of the child of God are not to be determined by what we see but rather by what we cannot see. It is out of the unseen workings and Hand of God that blessings in the life of the Christian come forth. Here in our text, Jesus’ sermon on the mount…Jesus plainly gives us this foundational truth… “Blessed are the poor in spirit“. It is a meek, humble, lowly spirit that is the unseen motivation for God to bless HIS children. Our flesh will look for the outward appearance of blessings and when it is not found we quickly judge ourselves and others and conclude that God’s hand is surely NOT at work because there is an absence of worldly or material things. Christian friend, it is the things that are SEENthat can cause us to miss the blessings that come only from the UNSEEN. It’s the unseen that the Lord is working on inwardly (a HUMBLE spirit) in order that HE might establish in us what will be seen in the distant future. The truth is, if we are only looking outwardly for God’s blessings, our eyes will deceive us just about every time.

The Lord desires to give us eyes of faith; eyes that lift from the natural and refuse to look on worldly possessions and material blessings until the unseen emerges to show God’s Hand and power working in our life. It is what the Lord does inwardly through the Holy Ghost bringing our heart and spirit to be yielded to HIM that will order our steps in this life. The outward things can change and be unstable but the things that cannot be moved will be those things that the natural eye may never see…yet we know it is these things that are the anchor of our soul. We cannot explain these mysteries and the workings of God in us, but one thing we can do, is choose to lift our eyes away from all the earthly and refuse to seek understanding or answers for them. When we come to this humble place in our walk with God, the Holy Ghost can open the eyes of our understanding inwardly and give us great peace and HIS blessings. Hallelujah! It is sometimes hard to grasp how the Lord works in our daily lives, but what great assurance we have when we learn that HIS ways are perfect and we put our trust in HIM alone.

When we reach this humble place in our service for the Lord, our faith in HIM begins to grow and we begin to see more clearly God’s purpose and plan in us. We also begin to see that our treasures are not gathered and hoarded up here, but they are laid up in Heaven for eternity. These are the blessings from The Unseen Hand of God! The Kingdom of God is discovered and pursued by faith and faith alone, never with the eyes! God’s greatest blessings are received from those moments in life where we SEE absolutely nothing, having no assurances of certain outcomes, no answers to our questions and no explanations given. This is the humble place for God to begin digging into the inner most parts of our beings to bring us closer to Jesus. Our path and walk with Jesus is paved with trials, sometimes pain, and the hard places in our life. It’s through the unexplainable that God will reveal Who HE is to us and in doing so we will discover who we are to HIM. Do you long for more of God’s touch, HIS power, HIS peace in your life? Then close your eyes of reasoning and logic and let go of the need to understand. The Holy Ghost will reveal to us those hidden things when we find our place living in the blessings of God in the land of the UNSEEN. There is coming a day when we will SEE JESUS face to face, and we will stand as living proof that the poor in spirit are rich beyond measure!
