Jan 30 Devotion: He Delivered Us

1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to wait for his Son from heaven, whom he raised from the dead, even Jesus, which delivered us from the wrath to come.

It seems that the devil was satisfied that he had done all that was necessary to defeat his number one adversary, Jesus Christ, by seeing him crucified, dead, and buried. But the truth is, through all of this, it was God that was carrying out his redemptive plan for man. The Bible tells us In Isaiah that it was God who bruised him (Isaiah 53:10) and it was the Lord that was satisfied with the travail that the Son went through. (Isaiah 53:11) All the while that the devil thought he had defeated Jesus; it was Jesus who won and was delivering us from Satan’s grip. He had paid for our sin debt with his precious blood. He was raised from the dead victoriously and through it all made our redemption and resurrection possible. (Colossians 1:14; 1 Corinthians 6:14) He has delivered us from the power and penalty of sin.

When something is delivered, it is delivered from one place to another place. So, not only were we delivered from the kingdom of darkness and sin but were delivered into the kingdom of light and righteousness, the kingdom of God. (The type is seen in the nation of Israel being delivered from Egypt and taken into the Promised Land.)

As you read this devotion today, please understand that Jesus Christ made eternal deliverance possible for us. What he did was and is sufficient for complete and total deliverance. In him we are not going to only make it part of the way and then get lost in the mail. We will not be lost in transit. If you call upon the Lord in repentance and faith, he will deliver you all the way to your final intended destination and there are no obstacles that can stop the completion of this delivery process. You can call it what you like, but that sounds like eternal security to me.

Philippians 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

As born again, children of God, we are going all the way. Deliverance is assured by the power of God and the finished work of Jesus Christ on Calvary. It may seem like we are facing many detours and roadblocks down here, but the Lord has and will overcome them all. We will be delivered into the very presence of God and there to stay throughout eternity. WE ARE DELIVERED!
