Are you spiritually content?
1 Timothy 6:6-10 [6] But godliness with contentment is great gain. [7] For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. [8] And having food and raiment let us be therewith content. [9] But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition. [10] For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. We see in these verses our instruction on being content with what we have. We are reminded in vs. 7 something that Job told us: Job 1:21 And said, Naked came I out of my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord .
We aren’t taking anything we have here with us into eternity. What I’d like to focus on today is why we don’t follow these scriptures when comes to things of this world, but we do seem to practice them in the spiritual sense? We seem to always strive for and work for more stuff, but seem fine with just being saved or going to church. If we are saved then it’s my belief that our desire will be to become a better Christian. Why?
-we represent Him
If we call ourself a Christian then we are a representation of Him in this world
-we reach others
To be able to show others Christ we must stand out from the world. Why would they want what we have if we are just like the world
-we gain rewards for Him
Revelation 4:10-11 [10] The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, [11] Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
Ask yourself today: Are you working harder to gain things here than you are to become a better Christian? May God bless you today. Bro. Josh Richardson
