Choices
Ruth 1:1-5
Now it came to pass in the days when the judges ruled, that there was a famine in the land. And a certain man of Beth–lehem–judah went to sojourn in the country of Moab, he, and his wife, and his two sons. [2] And the name of the man was Elimelech, and the name of his wife Naomi, and the name of his two sons Mahlon and Chilion, Ephrathites of Beth–lehem–judah. And they came into the country of Moab, and continued there. [3] And Elimelech Naomi's husband died; and she was left, and her two sons. [4] And they took them wives of the women of Moab; the name of the one was Orpah, and the name of the other Ruth: and they dwelled there about ten years. [5] And Mahlon and Chilion died also both of them; and the woman was left of her two sons and her husband.
Everyone will have many choices to make in their life. In the story of Ruth, her husband Elimelech made a choice to go down into Moab, a picture of the world. He made the easy choice, but often times the easy choice isn't the right choice. It must have seemed right because of the famine. There will be times of famine in the church when things seem to be dried up, but that's not the time to go down to the world for the answers to your problems. Your choices will always affect your family. Elimelech dies, and his sons, leaving his wife and two daughter-in-laws without a means of support. You will never make a choice that will not affect your family. The right choice must be made with much prayer.
The end of his choice was met with a gracious God. A God that is willing to send us help. All that would happen to Ruth and Naomi was that the hand of God was all over their lives. The field that Ruth would glean in was directed by God. The man she would marry would be directed by God.
Remember your mess-up can be fixed, but only by God.
May God bless you,
