Jan. 6 Devotion: What Really Matters(part 3)

WHAT REALLY MATTERS (Part 3)

Ephesians 5:15-17 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise,

[16] Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

[17] Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

In the last two devotions we covered the shortness of our physical life here. We also talked about how we ought to invest in our earthly life to gain eternal wealth. How the world around us appears to be solid, and sure you can touch and feel and see this world, BUT it’s temporary. Today we will answer this question, WHAT REALLY MATTERS and WHAT REALLY DOESN’T.

Life is a series of choices. If we are going to make good choices, choices that will lead to us to reach our potential IN CHRIST, we are going to need wisdom from God.  As we see above, in verse 15, and 17, wisdom will teach us to know and understand the will of the Lord for our lives. Wisdom will come by spending time with our Lord, IN HIS WORD, IN HIS HOUSE, and in sweet fellowship, alone—just you and HIM. This time can NOT be compromised or left out or we will be left not knowing HIS will and direction for our lives. My friend, if we going to make an impact and positive difference in the lives of people all around us, we MUST know God’s will for our lives.  We MUST seek HIS will, and know it, live it and allow HIS will and calling for our lives to consume us. If we know NOT HIS will, how can we be focused on WHAT REALLY MATTERS? That would be impossible. I made a short list below of things that REALLY MATTER and things that DON’T.

MATTERS MOST—Obedience and seeking God first, this is the key to an abundant, blessed and prosperous Christian life.  This is how YOU have it ALL my Christian friend!

-Making the most of your time—Every day is a gift from God.

-Loving other people—Long after the things of earth are gone, they will live on.

-Building the Kingdom of God—No earthly kingdom compares.

-Living ETERNAL LIFE—There is more to life than life on earth.

WHAT DOESN’T MATTER

-Your pile of stuff—The person who dies with the most toys does NOT win and dies anyway.

-Your earthly status—Your real status is defined in Heaven.

-Your long-term plans—Only God knows the number of your days left to live, so know HIS will.

-Being first— in the end, the first will be last.

-Busyness—A full schedule is NOT the same thing as a full life.

-Empty Living—You can NOT kill time without injuring eternity.

-Procrastination—Your time belongs to God.

Any riches, any accomplishments we accumulate on earth are going to go away, but the treasure we pile up in the eternal economy is treasure that will last FOREVER. That is the only kind of treasure that will last as long as you do. Hallelujah! May today be the start of a brand new day and new-year where you find yourself right where God wants you, so HE can use you for HIS eternal Glory.
