Jan 8 Devotion: Actions In A Crisis

Actions In A Crisis

1 Kings 19:4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper tree: and he requested for himself that he might die; and said, It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Elijah has just slain all the prophets. You’d think he’d be on cloud nine so to speak. Yet, all it took was a word from Jezebel and he finds himself under the juniper tree asking God to take his life. It’s easy to question Elijah and say he should not get down after all that he’d just seen God do. However, how many are just this way today? While they may not sit under a juniper tree and ask God to take their life, how often do the events of the day cause people to get depressed, lose control of emotions, or just get their eyes off Christ and place to much focus on current events. There is nothing wrong with staying up with current events. However, whatever goes on should not cause us to lose sight of our duties as Christians. Not just in sharing the Gospel, but also keeping a Christ like attitude. Under no circumstances am I suggesting that we let people berate or step on us. However, our actions can go a long way in showing others the peace that we can have in the face of adversity. I see a lost world all over the place in these days. They don’t know what to think with all that’s going on. Can they look at you and see a calming presence that the rest of the world lacks? We know all about the times we live in. We know what’s to come, and we also know the ending!! We need to be concerned for lost souls, as well as be excited for we know His coming is drawing nearer each day! Whatever situations face you each day, would the Lord be happy with how you handled those? Would He approve of your actions?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
