July 12 Devotion: What Moves You?

What Moves You?

John 11:33-36

[33] When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, [34] And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see. [35] Jesus wept. [36] Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

Compassion, sorrow, two things that Jesus could’ve felt at this moment. Regardless of the emotion, it shows that we have a God that cares! A God that’s not afraid to show emotion. A God that was moved as we see in vs 33. That brings me to today’s thought. What moves you?

We can watch videos or a tv show and be moved to tears. Watch our favorite team or player and be overcome with excitement. Don’t dare bring up politics around certain people without being prepared for a heated exchange.

It seems so easy to display emotion in the world. How about the things of God? When was the last time you were moved to tears in a time of prayer. When was the last time you got excited over something God did in a service? Have you ever just been so overcome with emotion that you just had to let it out by praising God with a hearty amen or just simply raising your hand? Have you ever been moved to tears over the lost leaving a service without trusting God? Have the tears ever just started to flow when thinking about all the things God has blessed you with?

By no means do we all show emotion the same way. Some in a service may shout, some cry, and some may simply raise their hand. However, some just seem to sit! You can have conversations about worldly things that they will become passionate about. The things of God though, just seem to have no affect on their lives. I pray you aren’t one of those people, but I challenge you to ask yourself today. Do the things of God move you the same way worldly things do?

God bless you today!
