July 17 Devotion: An Ever Present Presence

Hebrews 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

         One of the attributes of God is that he is omnipresent, which means he is everywhere, all the time. There is no place that he is not always there.

Psalm 139:7-12

7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?

8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.

9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.

12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.

Jeremiah 23:24 Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the LORD. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the LORD.

         The omnipresence of God is a great truth, but the verse in Hebrews 13:5 refers to a specific presence of God. It is a presence that is based on a saving relationship through Jesus Christ. God is everywhere present, but not in the same way everywhere. He is present in the life of the believer to guide, to instruct, to encourage, to convict, to chastise, to empower, to seal, and to fellowship. He is present as your Father to love you as his child. This presence is intimate and special. It is unique to his own children. There is a sense of his caring closeness that the lost do not experience. He certainly declares his glory and majesty in all places but in the believer, it is special. Rejoice this morning (if you are saved) that God is with you, in you, and will never leave you.

Romans 8:38-39

38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,

39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
