July 17 Devotion: Trusting Through Fear

Trusting Through Fear

Psalm 56:3

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.

Notice first what our text does not say. David did not say, “If I am afraid.” He said, “What time I am afraid.” Fear is a reality in all our lives. Even a man after God’s own heart faced moments of uncertainty, danger, and anxiety. We see, though, that David made a conscious decision: when fear came, he would turn to God instead of being controlled by it.

Trust is not the absence of fear—it is choosing to believe God’s promises in the middle of it.

Faith does not deny the storm; it anchors us to the One who rules over it. We might be facing fears about our family, our health, our future, or circumstances beyond our control. We must remember we have a refuge that never fails. God has not changed because our situation has changed.

Fear will tell you, “You’re alone.” Trust answers, “God is with me.” Fear says, “What if everything falls apart?” Trust responds, “My Heavenly Father is already there.” Fear focuses on what we cannot control, while our trust rests in the God who controls all things. The Christian life is not lived by feelings, but by faith. Every fearful moment is another opportunity to place our confidence in the Lord. As we choose to trust Him, He gives peace that cannot be explained by circumstances.

Philippians 4:7

And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Today, whatever uncertainty you carry, bring it to the Lord. He knows your fears, so leave them in His hands. The God who has been faithful in the past will be faithful today and tomorrow. Just trust Him!

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
