July 23 Devotion: Influencers

Genesis 19:14 And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, Up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law.

One of the big things in society today is social media influencers. These are supposed to be people who have an expertise on a product or in a certain field. They then use that expertise to influence others to make their purchases or decisions based on the influencers recommendations. However, unfortunately, too often these people are just pushing the product of the company that’s paid them the most. Even worse is that too many are influenced by what the influencers say when it comes to politics, religion, as well as other subjects. Lot had an opportunity to influence his sons in law. Instead the world had an influence on him to the point that when he tries to warn his family here they pretty much just laugh at him. He had become shaped by the culture around him instead of shaping the world around him to his beliefs. We must realize we have an influence on people around us everyday. We don’t have to live in wicked sin to have a negative influence on people. You talk about being saved yet you’ll talk like the world. Talk about the importance of going to church yet we will tell all kinds of stories about how our weekend went, but not mention how the church services went. We have people who say they are Christian yet they’ll talk about others, run people down, and just be downright hateful people. We need to be lifting up the name of Christ, showing others a true Christian attitude and pointing them towards the cross! What kind of influence are you today?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
