July 23 Devotion:Stubborn as a Horse!

Stubborn as a Horse!

Psalm 32:8-9

[8] I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye. [9] Be ye not as the horse, or as the mule, which have no understanding: whose mouth must be held in with bit and bridle, lest they come near unto thee.

How well do we listen to God? Think about all that God has blessed us with in today’s society. We have the Bible, commentaries and books from those that have spent their life studying, as well as preachers who will spend time with God to get His message for us. These plus many other things that we have at our disposal to use to discern and follow God’s plan for our lives. How well do we listen or follow that plan though? It’s easy as long as WE think it’s easy. God asks you to do something and you jump at chance, because you think it’s easy or attainable, or possibly right in your comfort zone.

However, what about those “hard” things? We become that horse or mule here in vs.9. We become stubborn when we think we know better than God. We begin to make excuse on why we can’t travel down a certain road. We let God know that we are incapable of certain things. Not educated in a certain field, can’t speak in front of others, not enough time, or maybe just truly scared because you don’t know the outcome. That stubbornness could lead to God having to control us by more disciplined measures. The Bible has all sorts of people who were stubborn and went against what God wanted them to do, only to face discipline or hardship to get them headed in the direction God wanted.

We must remember some things about God’s plan for our lives:

1. It’s His not ours.

2. He will not lead you somewhere and not keep you.

3. It may seem impossible to you but nothing is impossible with Him!!

Are you following Him today or are you having to be led around with a bit and bridle?

God bless you today!
