Christian Excuses

Luke 14:18-20

[18] And they all with one consent began to make excuse. The first said unto him, I have bought a piece of ground, and I must needs go and see it: I pray thee have me excused. [19] And another said, I have bought five yoke of oxen, and I go to prove them: I pray thee have me excused. [20] And another said, I have married a wife, and therefore I cannot come.

“I read my Bible every day.”

Good, but that don’t make you spiritual. I look at ESPN everyday, but that don’t make me an athlete.

“I’m at church every time the doors are opened.”

I was as well for over 15 years, and if not for God’s long suffering I would’ve woke up in hell had I went into eternity during that time.

“I pay my tithes.”

Sounds real spiritual if you say it out loud, however:

2 Corinthians 9:7 Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give ; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.

We can give all we want, but if we are giving out of obligation or giving begrudgingly then we are not giving for right reasons.

These seem to be some attitudes we take at times to “prove” we are Christians. When you get into the Bible and find those looking for Jesus to show up in their town, why do you think that was? The life that Jesus lived showed who He was. The life we live and how we act as Christians should be Christ-like. We don’t see Jesus talking about others, talking down to others, dabbling a little in sin!! We have reached a point where Christians want to act their own way and then try to make excuse and go on to “prove” they are a Christian. It might require us to swallow our pride at times or forgive others when we don’t want to. That old saying is still true today: Actions speak louder than words.

Today let your actions show who you are, and not use your words to try to convince who you are.

God bless you today!
