THE WORKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN YOUR LIFE
Acts 2:1-8 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.
[2] And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.
[3] And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.
[4] And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
[5] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
[6] Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
[7] And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
[8] And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
One of the most misunderstood doctrines in our day is the movement of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Christian. You may say even since this event took place in (Acts 2) as read here in our text, there has been much confusion among God’s people. We know that God is not the author of confusion, so we can rightly blame that confusion and misleading teachings on the devil himself. With God’s help and direction, we will study this doctrine today and more than likely over the next few devotions. May the Lord by HIS Spirit lead us to the knowledge of the Truth about this subject, and may HE open our eyes and grow us closer to HIS side.
In our text, we see God’s mighty power on display upon those who came together because they loved Jesus! They came together in ONE ACCORD, IN ONE PLACE! It was their love for Jesus that brought them there, then when they all had the same heart, mind, and purpose…THEN the WIND came and filled the house, Hallelujah! Here, there were no hidden agendas, pride was nowhere to be found, there was no bitterness, envy or strife, just a desire to meet together and show their love for Jesus. Notice, when the WIND came, FIRE came with it! When God breathes upon HIS people in a place of worship, there is WIND (HIS BREATH) and then comes the FIRE. This fire burns within us, but does not consume us, just as it did with Moses and the burning bush. Oh, it consumes everything else around us (life’s trials, sickness, heartache, and worldly things that distract us), but this fire is one that ignites the soul and spirit to see the spiritual realm and awakens us to Jesus like we have never known. I am not sure why the Lord put this upon my heart today, but I am sure that like never before, we as the church need to be awakened out of our sleep. If we can look at ourselves and look around us in our world today and feel like we are doing OK, my friend, there is a problem. I am not sure that any born again Christian can read our text and be honest with themselves and feel as though we are getting from God ALL THAT HE WANTS to give us, if we are willing to see an awakening and true revival in our lives and churches.
In conclusion of today’s thought, we MUST first, have an awareness of our need of spiritual revival and fire from heaven to stir us and change us. Secondly, there must be a turning from our flesh and worldly desires. Thirdly, there will be an emergence INTO the Spirit by which the Lord wants to pour out upon us. Christian friend, God has not changed, and this clear manifestation of God’s power we see in our text was not a mysterious event that was designed ONLY for us to read about. This portion of Holy Scripture was given to us for an example of how we are to see the mighty power of God come forth and change everything and everyone in its’ path! Tomorrow we as Christians will come together to meet in God’s house. Oh may the Lord grant it, that we come together as we see in (Acts 2)…that we would fill God’s house with joy and excitement, just to see Jesus, because we love HIM so much! Today, may we all have a heightened awareness of God’s presence in our lives and HIS desire to send forth the WIND and the FIRE to set us ablaze to do HIS work and to be forever changed.
