Hebrews 11:7 By faith Noah, being warned of God of things not seen as yet, moved with fear, prepared an ark to the saving of his house; by the which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.
We’ve all heard Hebrews 11 referred to as the faith chapter. We find references of great people of faith. We can find Moses, Abraham, Rahab and others. Think about Noah though for a second. Our text verse tells us that he was warned of things not yet seen. He was told it would rain. Something that had never happened. Noah then spent over 100 years then building an ark to prepare for the flood. Think of the ridicule he must’ve faced and the questions he was asked as he built the ark. Yet, his faith kept him in action doing what God had him doing. What would’ve have happened if instead he claimed he believed it could rain, but was going to wait until it started before he would start the ark. It would’ve been too late by then. See, all the people in this chapter have one major thing in common. Each of them took action. They didn’t just claim to have faith in God. They did what was instructed of them by God. What about us? How often do we claim to have faith, but our actions show otherwise? Do we fall apart when things don’t go our way? Are we willing to step out on faith when God asks us to do something? I understand completely that people have to be smart and do what God leads them to do, but think of the missionaries we’ve heard of that didn’t go out on deputation. They step out on faith and go where God has led them to and allow Him to meet their needs. This isn’t for everyone, but it does show their faith. In a lost and dying world what do our actions show? Do our actions show that we have faith in a one true God or do our actions show a lack of faith?
