June 18 Devotion: Filled

Ephesians 1:22-23

22 And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church,

23 Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all.

As I look at these verses, I would like to pull out a few thoughts for us to ponder today. Jesus Christ sits above all things, and he is the head of the church. His rightful position is to be exalted. His rightful position is to be over everything. Our rightful position is to be under him in all things. He is Lord, and we are to be his servants. He is the Great Shepherd, and we are to be his sheep. He is the head of the church, and we are to follow him. “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30)

It is very important in this positional relationship for us to realize that in our decreased position that we are increased with what is necessary to fulfill our responsibility. It says that he “filleth all in all”. He fills us all with all we need. When we take our proper place, the Lord will give us all we need. There is a great assurance and comfort in this truth. Living for the Lord is an impossibility apart from the provisional providence of God. So, God fills us with what we need. We need not face life’s trials in our own strength and in our own wisdom. If we do, we will surely fail. Submit yourself to the Lord. Trust him with all your heart and you will find all you need in him.

John 15:5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.

Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
