June 18 Devotion:Relishing In Riches

Relishing in Riches

Matthew 19:22 But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.

Most of you reading this I’m confident know the story here. We know this young rich man came to Jesus and asked Him what he needed to do in order to have eternal life. After claiming how good he was in vs. 20 we see Jesus tell him to sell all he has and follow Him. That gets us to our text verse and the young man leaving. That left me with the thought today of how many things in our lives do we stay in because we refuse to follow Jesus. Too often we face things in our lives and we stay in the doldrums so to speak because of our lack of commitment to The Lord. We seem to think with all our money, or self-help books, or wisdom that we can figure things out on our own. The Bible tells us a little something about that:

Revelation 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:

I’ve preached before that too often we claim to trust Him and give Him our problems, only to still try to fix them. We do these things by choice! We want to follow God on our terms. We choose to relish in the world’s ways to solve our problems instead of turning it all over to God. When we decide to follow God on His terms then we can get that peace that only He can give.

God bless you today!
