June 19 Devotion: The Privilege of Opportunity

Psalm 119:34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
We have been given a great opportunity to do something for the Lord in this world. We certainly don’t deserve it because what we deserve is judgment and hell. We rebelled. We have sinned. We have brought dishonor to the Lord. But he, in his loving mercy and grace, has given us the privilege to serve him. He had to change us to make us fit for service but, because of Calvary and through trusting Christ as Savior, we now have this opportunity of service.
As I write this devotion, I am in Dominica having been afforded by God the joy of teaching the word of God to people I never would have met if it were not for him making it possible. He opened the doors. He said, go through, I want to use you to help others. I can’t adequately express the wonder of that privilege. It is amazing that God could use me. It is amazing that God could use any of us. (Oh, I know we can have a high opinion of ourselves at times, but in reality, we are nothing but rebellious dirt without the grace of God.) But here I am teaching the precious word of God. How marvelous.
What about you this morning? Are you taking advantage of the privilege of the opportunity that has been given to you in Christ. We get to serve the one who has saved us, secured us, sustains us, and has assured us that we are his children. We get to represent him in this world. What a privilege! Let us “serve the Lord with gladness.” (Psalm 100:2)
