June 22 Devotion: Stop Fighting Alone

Stop Fighting Alone

Matthew 8:26-27 [26] And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. [27] But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!

Right before this passage of Scripture we find Jesus cast out the spirits of many that were possessed of devils. We also see him heal Peter’s mother-in-law. The disciples were experienced sailors, have now witnessed Jesus perform many miracles, yet they still failed to understand the full power that Jesus possessed. A storm comes up and after fighting to no avail they finally turn to Jesus in verse 25: Matthew 8:25 And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish.

How often do we fight unneeded battles instead of just relying on God. Our pastor even mentioned this past Sunday how the devil is looking for just a crack to get into in order to throw you for a loop. There are certain storms that come in our lives that we are going to go through. It’s called life. How do we handle those things? How often do we fight all we can against things that come up in our lives? All too often we get in our minds that we have to have a “fix” for everything. Something comes up and we immediately look for our own remedies to the situation. There are some storms that happen that there is nothing we can do to change it. However, there others that we may go through that are going to require a fight. Why do we fight alone? We have an entire Word of God that shows us just what the Lord can do when we turn things over to Him and seek His help and guidance. Why do we still try to do everything on our own instead of relying on God? So, as things come about in your life, don’t go at them alone. Instead, give those things to God, follow Him, and just watch how He can get us through even our worst of storms.

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
