June 3 Devotion: Dreamers of Destruction

Jude 1:8 – “ Likewise also these filthydreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

As some try to set their cities aflame, as other loot or pillage, as hoards riot in the streets, know that their kind has existed for many millennia. Beginning with Lucifer, the spirit of revolt has plagued many. They revolt against those things which they hate, and they hate anything that constrains the pursuit of their vices.

Jude references Sodom and Gomorrah in verse 7, and those people destroyed or spoke evil of any entity that prohibited them from defiling the flesh. The perpetual state of sinfulness is manifest in anarchy. Anarchy is the idea that everyone is free to do as they wish without any consequence or responsibility for their actions. Anarchy says that so long as you believe something to be worth doing, you may do it.

No matter the cause or movement that people may use to justify their rebellion, anything that defies the order instruction or God is solely focused on one thing: the defilement of one’s self. Why do some people hate police? Because law enforcement prevents them from riotous living. Why do some people speak ill of dignitaries and authority? Because that authority is what prevents them from living the depraved life that they seek.

The danger in anarchy and rebellion is allowing it to impact your spirituality. It is easy to become so jaded, apathetic and calloused that you think anyone or anything standing in they way of YOUR desires is worth destroying. They moment that you begin dismissing and speaking ill of the preaching of God’s word, you have already begun to walk down the road that was Paved by Satan himself.

Learn from the chaos that is sweeping some streets across our country. You want to see what happens when someone rejects the authority of God? Look around and see.

Your fellowservant in Christ,

Bro. Jordan Foster
