June 30 Devotion:Have We Become Complacent?

Writer: Immanuel Baptist ChurchImmanuel Baptist Church

HAVE WE BECOME COMPLACENT?

Amos 6:1, 4 Woe to them that are at ease in Zion, and trust in the mountain of Samaria, which are named chief of the nations, to whom the house of Israel came!

[4] That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall;

If there has ever been a time during my lifetime where Christians and the church seem to be at ease and (Complacent) it is the days in which we live. Thomas Edison once said; “Show me a satisfied man, and I will show you a failure.”  Complacency is the ever lurking enemy of the passionate heart. The secret to spiritual success is to never stop striving to know Jesus and HIS power, and the secret to spiritual ruin is satisfaction.  It involves putting every earthly desire, and every fleshly need, completely out of view.  It is a relentless pursuing of Jesus and not resting until you have laid hold of that for which you were made to do. A steadfast determination of soul that will not rest until Jesus is seen in us and on us in every facet of our lives.

The thought of being satisfied that we are dealing with today is NOT relating to the THINGS of this world…money or possessions. As a Christian, God supplies those needs…we should be CONTENT with those things. Here we are dealing with our spiritual growth and nature and the movement of God in our life. For the TOUCH and MOVEMENT of God in our life and in our church we should NEVER be satisfied! Always fervent in prayer for ONE MORE sinner to walk the aisle, ONE MORE message with God’s divine Hand on it! ONE MORE testimony where someone just burst out into tears and shouting because of the goodness of our Lord and HIS presence in their lives. Where have these times gone? When God and HIS presence gets so BIG in our services or in our alone time with HIM that our soul is flooded, our face wet with tears and there is JOY no matter what is going on in our life. Oh that God would send forth HIS great power to refresh us once again.

My Christian friend, what is it that drives you and brings you true joy in this life? What is your passion that makes your life worth living? Have you come to a point in your walk with God that you have decided that you have done ENOUGH and given ENOUGH? If you are this point you may very well be at ease and complacent with our Lord. May the Lord help us today to never be satisfied with what God has done in the past, and may our best days be ahead of us to see HIS great power, fire from heaven to stir us, and revival in our homes and churches.
