Mar. 10 Devotion: Chasing Fleas

Chasing Fleas

1 Samuel 24:14 After whom is the king of Israel come out? after whom dost thou pursue? after a dead dog, after a flea.

You ever slept in a cave? Ever done everything you could to chase someone down? Now imagine being a king and doing all these things. You could be sleeping in your palace, you could have others do your chasing for you. Yet, Saul had become so consumed with David that he finds himself sleeping in caves while wandering around and chasing David. Here in our text verse we see David asking Saul why is he pursuing after him? He’s nothing more than a dead dog, nothing more than a flea! David is saying he’s a nobody compared to the king! What small insignificant things are you chasing around today? What is keeping you from where God would have you? Have you become to fixated on a career, another person, a hobby, an enemy, etc? We can allow ourselves to get consumed with something else that can affect our walk with God. Ever been so upset with someone they consume your thoughts? You ever layed awake at night contemplating how you might get even with someone? Have you ever put any and all free time into mastering something just because you wanted to be better than someone else at it? It could be jealousy, bitterness, pride, etc. No matter what it is that causes it we can easily find ourselves in a place where we are chasing around something or someone that’s insignificant. Putting something in our crosshairs that takes away our time with God or where we should be with God. Are you chasing fleas today?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
