Fear Mongering

Numbers 13:27-33 [27] And they told him, and said, We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it. [28] Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. [29] The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan. [30] And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it. [31] But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. [32] And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. [33] And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.

Verse 30 contains one of the greatest statements in the Bible in my opinion. “For we are well able to overcome it.” This isn’t stated because Caleb knew something no one else did. He had seen how God had delivered the people time and time again, how God had promised them this land, and knew that if they were faithful to do their part then God most certainly would do His. However, we see the people become fearful and we know in chapter 14 that they do not possess the land. Caleb will be the only one of the group to get to see it.

Numbers 14:24 But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

We find that for a long time the devil has sought to strike fear into people’s hearts. This is a way he can control them. Look at what’s going on today! People have allowed the devil to put fear into their heart through the media and other outlets through this corona virus. No where does it say not to take things seriously. Moses took it serious when he did as God said and sent men in to search the land at the beginning of chapter 13. We are to be diligent and seek out the truths that God shows us. We are not to live in fear!! When we arrive at uncertain times that is when our faith should shine through in a lost world. How is the world going to come to trust in God if they see Christians in a panic and losing sight of the fact that God is still on the throne!! Be smart about things, but let the world see that we do not need to live in fear when we just trust God!

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
