A Heart For God?

2 Chronicles 16:7-10

[7] And at that time Hanani the seer came to Asa king of Judah, and said unto him, Because thou hast relied on the king of Syria, and not relied on the Lord thy God, therefore is the host of the king of Syria escaped out of thine hand. [8] Were not the Ethiopians and the Lubims a huge host, with very many chariots and horsemen? yet, because thou didst rely on the Lord , he delivered them into thine hand. [9] For the eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him. Herein thou hast done foolishly: therefore from henceforth thou shalt have wars. [10] Then Asa was wroth with the seer, and put him in a prison house; for he was in a rage with him because of this thing . And Asa oppressed some of the people the same time.

How many times can we find where Israel and Judah would continually seek help from other nations and kings instead of relying on God? Even though they could look back on how God led them to victory over larger armies, they still found themselves turning to others. Their hearts just weren’t towards God!

Where is yours today? It’s easy to claim certain things with our lips, but it’s still our heart that God sees! Watching sports on tv I’ll hear the phrase “they just wanted it more” quite often. I believe both teams or players always want to win. Sometimes talent is just too much to overcome, or at times maybe just the opponent’s heart wasn’t in it as much. There could be many variables on why that could be, but it doesn’t change the fact that their heart wasn’t in it.

We all wish we had more hours in the day. There is so much to do and there never seems to be enough time to get it done. Not enough time causes some things to suffer. What means the most to us will be what gets our attention. Are the things of God close enough to your heart to give them the attention they deserve? I’m a firm believer that you will find time for things that are important to you. Do you find time for the things of God or do you fit Him in where available?

God bless you today!
