Mar 29 Devotion: Words Are Powerful

Words Are Powerful

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Gods Word isn’t just a collection of words. We know it to be life changing. It points out how we are to live our lives. It can give us peace as well as pierce our souls as our text verse talks about. Have you ever thought about your words? While Gods Word is the ultimate authority for our lives, our words also have an effect on others. Do you use your words to encourage? This world does plenty to discourage people. Sometimes we could all use some encouragement. Whether it be a job well done or just encouraging someone to keep their head up, we all could use it from time to time. Do your words sow discord? Talking to others, about others accomplishes nothing but discord amongst people. We’d be better off practicing, “If you don’t have anything nice to say then don’t say anything at all” a lot more often. Do your words discourage? Nothing can hurt someone quicker than someone else using their words to tear a person down. It could be putting them down, poking fun at them, or just unneeded criticism. Regardless, if we are going to discourage then we need to rethink our words. When we read Gods Word it can be piercing, but it’s also done in love! Think about what you are about to say to someone this week. Is it what God would have you to say? Are you being an encouragement?

God bless you today! Bro. Josh Richardson
