Mar 6 Devotion: Money Well Spent?

Money Well Spent?

Matthew 28:19-20

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: [20] Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

A couple of verses I’d venture to guess a lot of us know by heart. A portion of Scripture we hear most of the time when you have missionaries in or being discussed. Obviously, not all are called onto the mission field. Those of us that aren’t called can then do a couple of things.

First, we can always pray. I find a sense of peace when you know you have people praying for you!

Second, we can give. We know it takes money for everything. Missionaries have to have money to live on. Money to get things to where the Lord has called them. I’m not here to tell you how to spend your money, but I do want to point out a couple of things to make you think a little.

Something that has just boomed in our country over the last couple of years has been sports betting. The best information I could find was from 2023, and the country spent roughly around $121 billion on sports betting. That just seems astronomical to us. However, think about this figure. In 2024, the country spent over $150 billion on our pets. We could no doubt find many other large numbers where money is spent. Let’s look at missions though. It’s estimated that America gives to missions and global ministry $45-50 billion each year. Sounds like a big number until you remember that’s about a third of what we spend on our pets! A third!! On top of that, it’s believed that less than 1% of that goes to reaching unreached people groups.

I’ll end with just a simple question today. Are you doing all you can for missionaries? Whether prayers or giving, are you doing all you can?

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
