May 12 Devotion:Jesus is Precious

JESUS IS PRECIOUS!

1 Peter 1:18-19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

[19] But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

1 Peter 2:4, 6-7, 21-22, 24-25 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,

[6] Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

[7] Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

[21] For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

[22] Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

[24] Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

[25] For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.

PRECIOUS: 1. Of great price; costly; as a precious stone.2. Of great value or worth; very valuable.

3. Highly valued; much esteemed.

I am not sure how many times I have read, preached, or heard preached these verses in our text and until now, the word PRECIOUS has never jumped out at me. When I read these verses this time, it was almost like the Holy Spirit would NOT let me see anything else, but this word….PRECIOUS! As I read over and over again 1 Peter chapter 1 and chapter 2, the Holy Spirit was filling my soul and opening my eyes and showing me just how PRECIOUS Jesus is to me! Hallelujah! May I say to you Christian friend, Jesus is so PRECIOUS!!! I looked up the definition of that word to get the full sense of it’s meaning…as you can see above, it means costly, of great price, of great worth or value, very valuable! Amen to that! Jesus is all of those and so much more! Think about how you have used that word in your life. I am sure that you have looked at your children, or spouse and or something or someone you have a deep affection for and said to them or to yourself….my goodness they are so precious!  Now, after reading these verses and thinking about all that Jesus has done for you….would you say….Jesus is PRECIOUS???

Peter said, in (verse 7) above… “Unto you therefore which believe he is precious:” Do you believe Jesus is PRECIOUS???  Sometimes, we tend to forget all that Jesus did when HE left heaven and took on the robe of flesh, was sinless and spotless in every way and then took our sin and shame on the cross. Peter said, in (verse 19) above…that we were NOT redeemed with anything precious of THIS WORLD… such as silver, gold, or traditions of men (Church Membership), but we ARE redeemed by something from another world! You see, the Word of God tells us that the blood of Christ is precious! Since Jesus is PRECIOUS, oh how PRECIOUS it was when GOD himself, the one who was perfect, shed HIS Blood on the cross for sinful man!

I was reminded in these verses, that we can get busy and caught up in this world, and even in serving God…and yet, stop living every moment of our lives reflecting on how valuable Jesus is to us. What value can we place on our salvation, eternity and what Jesus did for us when HE saved us and redeemed us with HIS own PRECIOUS Blood??? Jesus paid the ULTIMATE price and HIGH COST that we could NOT pay. The price HE paid on the cross was a cost that ONLY HE could pay and that my friend is why…JESUS IS PRECIOUS!
