May 15 Devotion: Trusting At All Times

Trusting at All Times

Psalm 118:8

It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.

Last week we had the blessing of being able to go to Disney World. Something fairly new happened this time around. Bella (our youngest daughter for anyone who doesn’t know) decided she liked to ride roller coasters. There were only a couple we didn’t think she would like, so we avoided them. One of the ones we rode, I videoed her the entire time. Expedition Everest is a coaster that goes forward for a while, and then goes backwards. You can see her having a great time until we go backwards. As we go backwards, it gets completely dark for a bit. As we come out of the dark, you then find Bella clinging onto me out of fear. It is actually a very amusing video to see the difference before and after the dark time. She just did what her instincts told her to do at that time.

What do we do in dark times? Do we fully trust that the Lord is going to take care of us? Just like Bella, when all is going well, we are just cruising along and think we have it all under control. Then something happens that we didn’t see coming. Maybe a financial or personal loss, possibly a sickness, or maybe even prices that just keep going up, making our budget come up short. How do we react? Are those the times we cling to the Lord even tighter and trust Him? Or are those the times we tend to put more trust in someone else’s advice or even our own understanding of the situation? It’s imperative we not forget that the Lord is for us! He’s always there for us. Those dark times in our lives are the times that we truly need to cling even tighter to Him and fully trust that He has it all under control!! Is it our instinct to trust Him or trust someone or something of this world?

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
