May 18 Devotion: Adversity in Our Lives

Adversity in Our Lives

Today I just want to look at a couple more things about adversity in our lives.

1. Adversity helps us experience the power of God

There is nothing that helps us realize just how mighty a God we serve, as when we are going thru something in our life, and He intervenes and gets us thru.

Philippians 3:8-10

[8] Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, [9] And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: [10] That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

2. Adversity helps us help others

There are times in our lives that after we have faced something, we see a friend going thru the same thing. It may help give us the words to express to them, but it should help give us an understanding as to what they are going thru. Then we can have more compassion and be a better friend.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5

[3] Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; [4] Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. [5] For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ.

There are other reasons we may face adversity in our lives, but those were a few I wanted to cover. We must never forget that while there are things we may go thru, and at times life may look bleak in our eyes, God is always still there!!

2 Corinthians 4:8-9,12,16-17

[8] We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; [9] Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; [12] So then death worketh in us, but life in you. [16] For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. [17] For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory;

God bless you today!
