May 18 Devotion: Examination Time

II Cor. 13:5

Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Tests and examinations are a very important part of schooling.

In our verse today we are told to take a spiritual test, to do some spiritual examining. This examining is not to come from others but it says (examine yourselves). It’s not from a legalistic view or a liberal view but from a Biblical view.

3 Things About this Examination

I. The Who for the examination-(Yourselves)

A. Note the emphasis on yourselves in this verse-

It’s-yourselves, ye, your ownselves, you

B. We are quick to examine others but this speaks of a personal examination.

II. The What in the examination-(whether ye be in the Faith)

A. It has to do with your soul salvation.

B. It’s an exam to see if we are really saved or not.

C. It is the most important examination of your life.

D. It determines your final destination. (Heaven or Hell)

III. The Ways of examination-

A. Do you have an affection for the Saviour? I Cor. 16:22

Anathema-(means accursed)

B. Do you have an affection for the scripture?

III John 1:4

IV John5:3
