May 25 Devotion:Do You Listen?

Do You Listen?

Hosea 2:14-15

[14] Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her. [15] And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt.

I spent some time discussing adversity last week in my devotions. Today I’d like to ask you a question. When going thru that adversity in your life do you listen to God, or do you just look for a brighter day?

Think about this portion of scripture. God is promising to bring the people to the wilderness, or a desert place. It’s those places in our lives that we can be free from distractions and God can speak to us.

Not only can He communicate with us, but He can turn that into a positive. Think about vs. 15. Your time of trouble or valley of Achor? This was where Achan had taken of the accursed thing and brought great disaster in Joshua chapter 7. Yet here we see God giving it to them “for a door of hope.” God may just be using our negative experiences to just get us to turn back to Him!

We too often go thru things in our life and look for quickest fix, or the world’s answer. It could be that a God is getting us to a place where we can get rid of everything else in our lives, free ourselves of all the distractions of this world, and just focus on Him! That focus on Him means listening to what He has to say about our lives! Then as we listen to Him, apply it to our lives and let Him lead us!

Psalm 119:105

[105] Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

God can speak to use regardless of our situation. It’s just a matter of are we listening for Him to speak or are we too interested in whatever our situation is, and if He’s going to deliver us?

God bless you today!
