Genesis 2:18, 21-24
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
Tomorrow will be my wife’s and my 44th anniversary. (May 29, 1982) God said, “It is not good that man should be alone” and I can attest to 44 years of living the truth that it is better together. It has been an adventure where God has led us from place to place and blessed us in so many ways. There have been many good days and some difficult ones, but Nancy has been the God ordained “help meet” for me every step of the journey. God has shown himself mighty on our behalf. On November 1, 1981, I received a double blessing that still amazes me to this day. I was saved by the marvelous grace of God and met Nancy for the first time. I had no idea on that day what would transpire over the next 44 plus years, but God has been faithful and Nancy has been a wonderful preacher’s wife.
The Bible says that “marriage is honourable” (Hebrews 13:4) and it has been ordained and established by God. We see that in the verses from Genesis 2. Marriage was originated by God. It is his plan and he declares it is honorable. The word honorable means to be of great value; that which is precious. Since this is true, the marriage union is to be treasured and treated with extreme respect. It is to be guarded, cultivated, and cherished. The bond of unity that can be achieved in marriage is like nothing else except the unity we can find in our relationship with Christ. When the philosophy of our day has so cheapened marriage that it is something to be discarded at the first sight of difficulty or rewritten as to the participants in it, let us not get caught up in such a mindset that reduces marriage far below its rightful place of value. It is honorable. God said so, he ordained it, and I can attest to how wonderful it is. To God be the glory, great things he hath done.
Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Happy anniversary Nancy. I love you!
