James 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
Genesis 2:18, 21-22
18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
21 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
God knows how to give the greatest and best gifts. The account in Genesis tells us of God giving a wonderful gift to Adam, the gift of a wife. He did not need to face the world alone. He could have a “help meet” that would join with him in a unity of purpose. She could bring comfort, companionship, and completeness. Together, they could walk through this land in a love relationship that defies defining or explanation because it is so wonderful. (We know that sin defiled this relationship as it is defiles everything, but that does not change the wonder of this gift and how beautiful this relationship still can be.)
Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.
Today marks 43 years of marriage for me and Nancy. I can report to you without reservation that she has been a wonderful gift from God for me. We have faced difficulties together and God has brought us through them all. I certainly have regrets for things in my life, but marrying Nancy is certainly not one of them. I want to publicly thank the Lord for his great gift to me and make sure that all would know that I love her and am so thankful for her. Happy Anniversary!
