A LIFE OF NO REGRETS

1 Samuel 30:8-9 And David enquired at the Lord, saying, Shall I pursue after this troop? shall I overtake them? And he answered him, Pursue: for thou shalt surely overtake them, and without fail recover all.

[9] So David went, he and the six hundred men that were with him, and came to the brook Besor, where those that were left behind stayed.

The world today is full of people and even Christians with vain pursuits and empty dreams. The pull and voice from the world is strong and constant and it beckons the Christian to pursue empty desires, careers, and dreams that are not lead of the Lord. As a child of God, I am never to pursue my own dreams or make plans according to my thinking and my ideas. It’s easy to get swept up in the joy of dreaming and planning for the future, but what if my dreams are not God’s dreams for my life? How can I follow God and be in pursuit of making my dreams a reality? If I belong to God and I am completely submitted to HIS will, then shouldn’t my dreams and plans belong to HIM as well? Christian friend, there is a heavenly direction given for every child of God who asks for it. The Lord wants us to stay close to HIM and walk right in the path that HE has laid out before us. How is it that we get off the path that God has cleared for us? I believe one sure way we begin to stray from HIM is to forget that we need HIM and that HIS plan is always perfect! Hallelujah!

In our text, King David knew all too well what it meant to be in the center of God’s will. For David, it meant life, peace, and victory. He was a mighty soldier in battle and was respected as a leader. David could have easily summoned his men to follow him into any battle with no questions asked. But what do we see this valiant commander doing? He seeks heavenly direction first! If you read the first 7 verses of

(1 Samuel 30) you will see why things COULD have been different for David. The Amalekites had just burned Ziklag with fire and had taken their wives and all their children as captives. In the emotion of the moment, David and his men could have made a hasty decision out of anger and revenge to get back what had just been taken from them. Oh what a blessing the Word of God gives us here to instruct us, even in the tragedies of life, TO STOP and seek the Lord’s direction. David and his men were utterly devastated and the Bible says “they had no more power to weep”. There were no more tears left to cry and they were BROKEN. Yet even through this, we see the Lord teaching us here to always come to HIM FIRST! David knows he will prosper in anything he does as long as he is in God’s perfect will. There would be no victory if God was not with him and there would be no power on the battlefield if God wasn’t fighting for him and his men. King David lived dependent upon the One True King to lead him and guide him in every decision and in every battle. He was confident in his God!

We can boldly ask God for help, direction and protection, even asking HIM to turn our feet away from destructive paths that will only lead to death. By seeking God’s counsel, you are building a wall of protection around your life and your family that the enemy can NOT penetrate and your steps will be guarded at every turn. Many times we don’t seek God because we fail to realize our own weaknesses. It’s often pride and the need for control that keep us from coming to God for HIS leadership and help. David knew what going into battle without God meant…DEATH. David was desperate to have God with him in every battle and in every decision.

Maybe you find yourself right now devastated by life, tragedy or some trial and there are no more tears to cry and your strength is almost gone. My friend, take your life to God and ask HIM just as David did, and HE will give you counsel for success. Just ask the Lord….shall I pursue these desires??? Many heartaches and regrets will be missed if we would simply ask God before proceeding. May the Lord teach us today to seek HIM before we act or take another step. It’s my prayer for you today that the Lord would lead you in the path that leads to life, and that your life brings honor, praise and glory to Jesus Christ. If we seek the Lord and HIS guidance and WAIT for HIS Word, we will never stumble and our feet will be firmly placed on the path HE has chosen for us. Ask the Lord first and have NO regrets later.
