May 9 Devotion: A Lamp, A Light, or Little

A Lamp, a Light, or Little

Psalm 119:105

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

We have many forms of light we can use today. There are a couple of forms of light we see here in our text verse.

When you think of a lamp, you probably think of a lamp like you have sitting around your house somewhere. However, if you think of Bible times, you realize a lamp is a vessel that would contain oil and a wick that would burn to give light. That lamp is not going to give off the same light you think of today. It’s going to light up your steps directly in front of you. Think of a movie you might’ve seen where a lamp might be held up to be able to see right in front of them.

When you see the word light, we just think of things being completely lit up. The complete absence of darkness.

What I want to ask you today is how do you use the Word of God? Do you use it as a lamp to light your every step? Do you realize that getting enveloped into His Word will help illuminate each step God would have you take? Not only each step, but relying on His Word will light up your path and Gods will for your life. When we read His Word and truly dwell on it, He will reveal to us the path we are to take in our lives.

However, if we just read it like it’s just something we are supposed to do, then I’d say we will get little out of it. If we read it like it’s a chore, then we won’t dwell on it and we won’t use it as a guide for our lives.

What is the Word of God to you? Is it a lamp? Is it a light? Or do you treat it as it’s of little use to you?

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
