Is He Lord?

Philippians 2:11

And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

We will mostly refer to this verse when talking about people who oppose everything that has to do with God. They can deny Him all they want now, but one day they will bow to Him. One day they will have to acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord.

However, how many of us have Him as Lord in our lives? We trust Jesus as our Saviour, but are often hesitant to surrender every area of our lives to His lordship.

Is He Lord in title or Lord in our actions?

1. Lord in our decisions?

Proverbs 3:5–6

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. [6] In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Do we trust Jesus and seek Him in all our decisions? How often do you seek Him first in your decisions instead of a last resort?

2. Lord in our desires?

Psalm 37:4

Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

Do we desire the things the Lord wants for us in our lives, or are our desires more consumed with worldly things?

3. Lord in our devotion?

Matthew 6:33

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

A lot of things we are seeking today, how many of those things have to do with Christ?

4. Lord in our direction

Luke 9:23

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

Wow, is this one a hard one! Seems that most of us are willing to do a lot of things for Christ, but deny ourselves and truly follow Him? That's where it gets difficult! We have too many of our own desires and goals that we're unwilling to surrender.

The question for us today isn't whether Jesus Christ is Lord. The question is whether we're living like He is. We've trusted Him to save our souls, but do we trust Him to direct our steps? We've trusted Him with our eternal destination, but are we willing to let Him determine our earthly direction? We don't make Jesus Lord by giving Him that title. He already is Lord.

The question is whether we're submitting to His authority.

He shouldn't just be Lord of our eternity. He should be Lord of our everyday lives.

God bless,

Bro. Josh Richardson
