Oct 1 Devotion: Better Late Than Never

Genesis 4:6-7

6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

I realized that I had forgotten to write a devotion for today and set out to get it done now. (I apologize for my negligence). The above verses came to mind. Cain had been given an opportunity by God to get things right between himself and his brother. Getting right was still an option, so it was not too late. But Cain made the wrong choice and slew his brother. It would have been better to get it right late rather than never, but he chose never instead.

God is longsuffering and his given us opportunities to get right with him. You may not have made the right choice up to this point. There may be some things that are lingering in your life that need to be corrected. If God is offering you the opportunity of repentance, then never has not yet come, but if you continue to put it off, it can become too late. There are certainly examples in the Scriptures concerning too late. Please don’t reach that point. Get things right while the door of opportunity is still open.

(This devotion is definitely late. I hope it is not too late.)
