Oct. 16 Devotion: The Greatest Minority
The Greatest Minority
Matthew 7:14
Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
In the Bible Institute on Tuesday evening, Bro. Adrian said those words, and it got me to thinking.
We hear the word minority used quite often today. Usually, we associate it with race, ethnicity, or politics. However, a minority is simply a smaller group that makes up less than half of the whole. You can be in the minority because of your beliefs, your opinions, or even the foods you enjoy. But there's one minority that I believe is greater than all the others, and that's those who have trusted Jesus Christ as their Saviour.
I’d say those of us that are saved are in the minority. When you look at our text verse, I don’t know how many that is, but it does say “few.” There are those who appear to be saved, who may even do great things in the name of Christ, yet have never truly trusted Him as their Saviour. Jesus gives us a sobering warning about those individuals.
Matthew 7:22–23
Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? [23] And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.
This all should make us realize that those of us that are born again truly are in the minority. However, not just any minority, but the greatest minority. This minority gives us a home in heaven!
John 14:3
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
This minority gives us victory!
1 Corinthians 15:57
But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
One day the minority will reign!
Revelation 20:6
Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with him a thousand years.
Revelation 2:26–27
And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations: [27] And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
The world may never understand why we live the way we do. They may question our faithfulness to church, our convictions, or our desire to live for the Lord. Don't allow the opinions of the majority to discourage you from living for Christ. We may be few in number, but we have a home in heaven, victory through Jesus Christ, and the promise that one day we will reign with Him. I'd much rather be among the few who have found the narrow way than among the many traveling the broad way. We may be in the minority today, but what a privilege it is to be part of the greatest minority!
God bless,
Bro. Josh Richardson
