Oct. 7 Devotion: Being Alone with Him

BEING ALONE WITH HIM

22] And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away.

23] And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone. Today let us see the spiritual benefits of making time each day to be alone with the Father! Notice here in this passage that Jesus chose solitude and being alone with His Father over the multitudes and even over being among Godly men (the disciples). Here Jesus is showing us an example of the importance of SILENCE in our daily lives. Our world is so loud and moves at such a high pace, that if we do not get alone with our Lord, we will never hear HIM speak to us. We will be better Christians if we are alone more, waiting upon God, and gathering spiritual strength to labour in HIS work! We ought to ponder upon the things of God, and the Word of God. We get real joy and peace in His Word and by being in His presence. Have you ever wondered why it is that some Christians, although they may have heard enough preaching to save the world; they make but slow advances or no growth at all in the divine life? I believe it is because they neglect their prayer closets, and do not thoughtfully meditate on God & His Word. Oh Lord, give us a burden and a desire to come apart to pray, to be still, and silent that we may hear YOU, and only YOU, and know YOU! Hallelujah! When we learn how empty everything else is in this world, it will teach us how precious it is to be alone with the Creator. With tomorrow being the Lord’s day, today may we have an urgency to slip away and be alone with HIM! My friend, nothing else will do, nothing else will bring REVIVAL to your soul, nothing else will leave you fulfilled and absolutely satisfied like being alone with HIM!
