Oct 9 Devotion:Rain From Heaven

RAIN FROM HEAVEN

Job 29:23 And they waited for me as for the rain; and they opened their mouth wide as for the latter rain

James 5:17-18 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

[18] And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

Amos 4:7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.

Jeremiah 14:4 Because the ground is chapt, for there was no rain in the earth, the plowmen were ashamed, they covered their heads.

Acts 14:17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

I can water my flowers and plants outside and even my grass every day during the drought of summer days and it will keep them alive. But even if I water daily it will never do what the rain from Heaven can. A fresh summer rain can perk up any dry ground and re-color the greenery with one good rain fall. Nothing can replace those heavenly waters no matter what we think about earthly water. The Lord created this world to respond to the waters above not the waters below. Watering myself, no matter how long or consistent, will never do what rain from above will. It’s God’s spiritual principle for us in Christian living as well. We need the fresh waters from above in seasons of drought. When we are thirsty, nothing else will satisfy!

Walk with Jesus and serve HIM long enough and you will inevitably discover your well can become dry. There are seasons in our lives when we just need the fresh rains from Heaven. We can get so busy serving and with the duties that life demands and yet for some reason we continue to go thirsty. Without the life giving waters, we will soon find ourselves exhausted, frustrated, disappointed, stressed, fatigued and ready to quit. When all along, all we needed to do was shut down and rest long enough to take in the rain. God gives us the signs as if waving His mighty hands from the Heavens saying; look this way…remember Me!” All the stress, worry, anxiousness, anger, and fear, these are all reminders that we need a fresh drink from the Lord in our lives. This is one of the greatest spiritual awakenings a soul can have in this life, when we recognize the longing within for the waters that only God can give.

No matter how hard we work for the Lord, strive with HIS people, sacrifice, pray, give or stand, we will never be able to continue without the needed life giving waters of the presence of God. If you are struggling to make it, hanging on by a thread to simply survive every day or if you are wanting to quit on God or life altogether then know this; you are thirsty, thirsty for the fresh rains from Heaven. Run to the One Who sends that rain and tell Jesus your need for HIM. Let Jesus know how thirsty your soul has been and that all you want and need is HIM. When you do, you will once again feel HIS presence as Jesus meets you on the mountain of HIS provision! Today, would you simply surrender yourself and everything you have in this world to Jesus and ask HIM to send you rain from Heaven? Lord, may revival start today in me!
