Sept. 14 Devotion: A Falling Away
A Falling Away
2 Thessalonians 2:1-3
Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and by our gathering together unto him, [2] That ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand. [3] Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;
In these verses, God has warned us of the conditions of the world before the coming of the Lord Jesus. There would be a falling away from the church. We're living in those days, when attending church is not important to most people, but the church is the most important place in the world. It's so valued by God that he purchased it with the blood of his only begotten Son. When Jesus returns, he's not coming back for some social club where all the wealthy gather, but he's returning for the local church. A lot of people promote home church, saying that it is more family-friendly. The problem with that is the Bible doesn’t teach that. In the book of Revelation, God is writing to a local church that was established by him, not by some man who didn't want to get up and get dressed so he could go meet with other Christians. God will always promote the local visible church.
May God bless you,
